TOUR INFORMATION

Overview

Remarkably well preserved to the extent of giving the clichéd phrase âold world charmâ expression, the small town of Kasauli lies curled along the heights of the first major row of hills on a side road off the main highway that connects Kalka to the state capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla. Kasauli itself seems to live in a delightful time warp that belongs to a century now gone. Its narrow roads wander up and down the hillside and offer some of the finest views of the area. At the foot of the hills pours the spread of the vast Gangetic plains and unfolds a carpet of bright lights that shine like little sequins through the night.

TOUR INFORMATION

Overview

Jaipur has been laid according to the conventional nine-grid pattern that astrologers believe to be lucky, and which has been recommended in the ancient Indian treatise on architecture. Each grid consists of a square, and these have been planned so that, at the heart of the city is the City Palace. Spread around it, in rows, are public buildings, the residences of noblemen, the living and trading quarters of merchants and artisans. Straight, wide roads run through the city, while a high, crenellated wall that forms its defense is pierced with seven gateways that serve as entry points. Today, these walls may be more difficult to spot since the city has grown far beyond its original plan, but they are still there, proof that though Jaipur saw no great siege, it was more than adequately prepared for it.

Ranthambore National Park is in Sawai Madhopur District of Rajasthan state.Located at the junction of the Aravalli and Vindhya hill range, this is one of the finest places to view animals, especially as they are used to being stared at here. The park covers an area of Approximately 400 sq Km and if combined it with the area of sawai man singh sanctuary area,it is around 500 Sq km.

Udaipur

Rajasthan' s historic city of Udaipur is located about 400 km southwest of the state capital of Jaipur. It is named after its founder, Maharana Udai Singh, who founded the city in 1559 and made it the capital of his Mewar kingdom. It is a very popular tourist destination, famous for its many Rajput-era palaces including the iconic Lake Palace and several lakes including those of Pichola and Fateh Dagar. Udaipur is also a major centre for the performing arts, crafts and its famed miniature paintings.

The Shilpgram festival is a great crowd-puller every year. According to a legend Maharana Udai Singh was guided by a holy man meditating on the hill near Pichola Lake to establish his capital at that very spot. Surrounded by the Aravalli Ranges, forests and lakes, this location was relatively less vulnerable to external invasion. Maharana Udai Singh died in 1572 and was succeeded by Maharana Pratap who valiantly defended Udaipur from Mughal attacks.

Maharana Pratap is the most revered Rajput icon who gallantly fought the Mughals at the legendary battle of Haldighati in 1576. Mewar continuously defied foreign invaders through several bloody battles until the British intervention in the early 19th century that led to a treaty which in 1818 made Udaipur part of British India. Upon independence, Udaipur merged with the union of India.
